Artist Management/Representation/Networking: Forro in the Dark is the most recent addition to MIN Entertainment. Hailing from NYC but with roots from Brazil, Forro in the Dark makes people dance like they forgot they could. They sweat, stomp, roll their eyes into the backs of their heads and don’t stop for hours. For the past four years, they’ve packed their home base and birthplace at Nublu well beyond capacity every Wednesday night, with lines stretching out onto Avenue C during hailstorms and blizzards. Throughout 2007, the band has toured with artists such as Bebel Gilberto, Culver City Dub Collective, and Miho Hatori, and played festivals such as SXSW, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Quebec City Summer Festival, Chicago Folk and Roots Festival, and the Cambridge River Festival. Their debut release ran at #1 on the CMJ New World chart for 7 weeks strong. The band has performed on the BBC, KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, WFUV, Horizantes on KUT/NPR, and upcoming on the World Cafe. They are on Nublu Records and are booked by High Road. In 2007 alone, Kid Beyond performed at Coachella, SXSW, Langerado, Wakarusa, Treasure Island, Lightning in a Bottle, and Evolve among other festivals. Throughout the spring and summer, he will be working on material for his debut full-length album. In 2006, Kid Beyond released his debut EP, entitled Amplivate. In it's first days on sale, it quickly moved into the Top 5 sales on CD Baby, and it was featured on NPR's "Day to Day." He was named "Best Oral of the Bay" in the Bay Guardian, and played packed EP release shows in SF, LA, NYC, and Austin. He is represented by the Progressive Global Agency. In 2006, Kid Beyond rocked NAMM, SXSW, Earthdance, Summerfest, Musik Messe in Germany, and did a national tour supporting Imogen Heap and opened for other artists including Keane, String Cheese Incident, DJ Krush, Blackalicious, The Wailers, Buckethead, The Mutaytor, Digital Underground, The Coup, and the Brazilian Girls. Scissors for Lefty signed in North America with Eenie Meenie Records and their album Underhanded Romance was released in the US on June 12 with stellar reviews in Spin, Paste, SF Chronicle, LA Times, Miami Herald, Marie Claire, Flaunt, and the cover of West Coast Performer. This year, they have supported the Smashing Pumpkins, Erasure, Paolo Nutini, the Bravery, and Juliette and the Licks on a 40-date US tour, as well as playing countless festivals such as the LA Detour Festival, the Echo Project, SXSW, and CMJ. In 2006, SFL toured throughout the US, UK, and Germany, opening for acts such as the Arctic Monkeys, Paul Weller, Dirty Pretty Things, Metric, Panic! at the Disco, Blonde Redhead, Shiny Toy Guns, and the Fiery Furnaces, and playing festivals such as Reading/Leeds, and Indian Summer. They are booked by The Philosophy Agency in North America, and Primary everywhere else. The Ebb & Flow are currently on hiatus as Roshy and Sara are re-locating to San Diego, CA to pursue other professional ventures, and Sam is busy in SF with his new baby, Wally. We wish them the best! |
